Ranthambore Tiger Reserve is located in eastern Rajasthan, at the junction of the Aravalli and Vindhya ranges.

It includes Ranthambore National Park and Sawai Mansingh and Kailadevi sanctuaries.

The reserve is named after Ranthambore Fort, built in 944 AD by Chauhan rulers, situated on a 700 feet high hill inside the park.
